Christian Schunn

Christian Schunn is a Senior Scientist at the Learning Research and Development Center and a Professor of Psychology, Learning Sciences and Policy, and Intelligent Systems at the University of Pittsburgh. He directs a number of research projects in science, mathematics, and engineering education. One line of work involves the SWoRD project, a web-based system for using peer-review to bring writing back into high school and undergraduate curricula in many disciplines and to provide a supercollider for educational research on writing and learning by reviewing. A second line of work involves building innovative technology-supported STEM curricula, that is, true integrations of science and mathematics, science and engineering, or technology and mathematics. As a third line, he is a Principal Investigator of the Science Learning Activation Lab, a multi-institutional research and development laboratory focused on inspiring children towards life-long engagement with science. Finally, in collaboration with others at LRDC, he develops new training interventions for complex skills in mathematics and science that are guided by neuroscience perspectives and methods.
